Boeing Chooses SelectTech to Develop, Test, and Certify Airborne SATCOM Routers

SelectTech Geospatial, LLC, under contract with Boeing SatCom Services, has announced the design, development, and certification of an airborne satellite router for Wideband Satellite Communications (SATCOM) for military and other government customers.

The airborne satellite router will be offered in two certified form factors:  an ARINC 600 4MCU (WCM-5000M) and a 19"/1U rack mount (WCM-5000RU) chassis.

Built around the revolutionary Newtec satellite modem board from ST Engineering iDirect, the modem supports ground-breaking Return Link technology (Mx-DMA)TM and DVB-S2X Forward Link technologies to maximize the use of valuable satellite resources through greater bandwidth efficiency, scalable platform operations, and Quality of Service (QoS) advantages to accelerate, shape, and prioritize traffic.  Includes Boeing onboard processing software to meet customer requirements for integration, network and modem health status, and aircraft-specific discrete control.

Both modem variants have undergone extensive and stringent FAA testing for DO-160 environmental and EMI standards, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-704 aircraft power characteristics to operate on a wide range of fixed wing aircraft.  The WCM-5000 series modems are compatible with a variety of aircraft antennas for seamless integration.
